Biobased Coatings Europe 2026 conference in Düsseldorf, Germany, June 10-11.
We were 24 invited speakers and about a hundred participants at the conference and for me it was the first time to be invited to a European conference so it was of course a little nervous but also very exciting to have the opportunity to compare where Ottosson Färgmakeri is regarding the European Union's goal for green transition in the paint and surface treatment industry. Most speakers worked in large companies' laboratories to increase the biobased element in binders. It was obvious that the vast majority were still working with plastics, acrylates and alkyds. Some worked with lignin which is a natural binder in plants and various natural waxes.
We were the only company that only worked with linseed oil and could therefore report a 100% biobased product as a binder.
In my presentation, I was able to emphasize that for 40 years I have only worked with linseed oil and was able to show great success with our linseed oil paints. We have had to wait many years to be able to show reference objects that have proven to last a very long time. That gave a strength to my presentation that impressed the participants. It was not laboratory tests but reality, which is also based on a 500-year tradition in Sweden.
After the conference, I felt strengthened in the belief that we are working in the right direction to do the little we can for a more sustainable world.
